this speaks to me in so many ways. really just so sweet to have those moments of deep noticing and attaching ourselves to other humans, platonic or romantic. i will think of it for a long time. i think noticing and the imitating are the very best love languages.
I've read so many things about love—what it is and what it feels like. Only few have captured it as beautifully as you have, and I couldn't help but shed a tear while reading. Thanks for writing this, Carina.
This felt like chewing an electrifying pack of sour patches all at once and the flavors unsparingly burst in your mouth so much so that you can't explain what flavor you just felt or how eating a whole pack of sour patches made you feel.
This is wonderful! I mean it in a way that people don't see the word wonderful for what it is anymore; it is indeed full of wonder.
This was so beautiful!! I think about love all the time, and how everything in life stems from love- a thought that brings me wonder and comfort.
It really is so scary opening up to people in the fear that they will somehow betray you or not even want to be in your life in the first place, however, something that I like to remind myself is that the people who will bring love into your life and who are meant to be there do not have to be forced or convinced to stay.
I absolutely love how you put this into words. The sweetest person who first introduced me to the world of “loving and knowing” in this way sent me this post and - yes! It’s what makes us! To be known. And loved for nothing else than exactly that.
Thanks for sharing this elegantly written description of cherishing others @Carina ❤️ I feel like there is another key element that is needed to truly know and be known: authenticity. I have found the statement that you cannot love or be loved if you don't know who you are to be true.
You have no idea what this means to me. Lately I’ve been so confused about someone in my life. In two weeks of us talking he tells me he loves me. I was so confused because I know love is a build up, even if you feel something at first sight, it’s never entirely love. You only know me physically, you don’t even know why I like to feel the wind on my skin, truly why it matters so much to me.
What you've written is so beautiful, and I couldn't agree more. In this society, boundaries (which are clearly also important) are more prevalent than truly getting to know the person. The beauty of curiosity—not just knowing your partner's favorite color, but also what haunts them at night—is how they see themselves, what motivates them, what inspires them. Definitely to be loved is to be known.
We recently had this discussion with one of my friends. She is too scared of heartbreak and revealing too much of herself and it not being enough. As someone who is in a long term relationship, I am also terrified of being left. However, I would’ve never known so much about myself and love if I didn’t experience this. I feel like this is very cliché, but my philosophy will always be that it’s better to love and lose, than never to have loved at all. Loving people it’s the greatest gift we possess as humans. And losing them teaches us about how important love is.
That is such a beautiful reflection! I fully agree with you. Love is the whole point.
But yes, it is really scary. That's also why picking the right people to be open with is so so important. We're allowed to take our time and do it slowly. And if it doesn't work out, then it isn't a reflection of someone "not being enough" but rather you not being compatible—which of course can feel awful. But there are so many wonderful, magical experiences and moments we'd miss out on if we didn't give it a shot.

Thank you so much for reading! I'm happy it resonated with you! And I agree, the deep noticing is so beautiful.

Such great writing <3
Thank you so much, Rachel!! Reminds me of the quote “There is only love, everything else is our resistance to it.”
Beautifully said, I agree<3
This is the kind of love we all want

Such a wonderful comment! Thank you so much! What a lovely thing it is to have a person like that.
We humans desire companionship, yet it is also important to recognise the time to let go.
Very true.
This is one of my unofficial goals of 2025 : letting myself be known.
That’s lovely. I’m joining you on that one <3
