I felt reassured as I read your beautiful piece, Carina. I believe our souls are drawn to others who share our mindsets and energy. Why else would there be so many choices that others find as appealing as we do? My husband and I were in several places at the same time earlier in our lives. We were born on different continents and still found our way to each other. When we met, there was an instant sense of having known each other before. If that’s not in-yeon then I should be the poster child for randomness.

Wow, that's amazing! I love that. And I agree with you, if that's not in-yeon then I don't know what is. How did you find out you had been at the same place at the same time?

I've heard someone say similar things before, that it wasn't necessarily love at first sight but more of a recognision, like "oh, there you are, I've been looking for you". I'm actually trying to write an essay about this topic too at the moment, some sort of continuation of this one. If you have any wise words, let me know :)

What a beautiful comment, J.T. – thank you so much!!

We talked about vacations we had taken and discovered there was some overlap. I was a campus tour guide and he visited my school when I was working. He mentioned stopping by the information booth. I may have been staffing it then. There were a couple of other instances like that.

I have friends I remember noticing before we actually met face to face. One had a small part in a musical that enjoyed. We talked about it later.

i have believed in destiny, and in faith my whole life. the idea of the invisible string theory somehow strikes a magical light in the deep corners of my heart. i look at the sky every few days, and immerse the pure and raw beauty of existence. i imagine that whenever my head is up high looking at the sky, sometimes with the company of clouds and sometimes with starts, my soulmate is also looking at the exact same sky at the exact same moment.

so, i wanted to say thank you for this beautiful piece, carina. it made me remember to feel hopeful about my future, by reminding my impatient soul that the people who will love me so deeply, so from the depths of their hearts, are mostly people i haven’t even met yet. but who knows? maybe we swam in the same sea, got bathed by the sun at the same hour, maybe even said the exact same word or read the exact same book at the same exact hour. who knows? thats the beauty of life after all. the not knowing and never being sure of it all. maybe we all met our soulmates already. who knows? i guess what we will do is, we will wait, have faith in time, and when the time comes, we will see:)

If you are, I am one too. I don’t think romance is supposed to be rational anyway - perhaps romance should be the exact opposite.

Thank you so much for reading, Angelina!! Stumbled upon your essay in the middle of writing this one and felt I had to include it. Such a great piece :) Love that your mom says that! Thinking there's no such thing as a coincidence makes everything more important or meaningful in some way.

This is sooo beautiful, and genius, if I'm being honest! I've never thought of it like this, fate may or may not be an actual thing, but someone out there thinking almost exactly the way I do is definitely an actual thing.

I've thought about this ever since my husband and I first met and got to know each other. We talked about growing up and the different lives we lived (he grew up about an hour north of where I grew up, different schools, different towns, different demographics). He eventually told me about his childhood dentist, who was in my hometown, right next to my mom's work which I frequented after school each day. We could have easily seen each other as children. We talked about walking laps at the local malls and shopping at our favorite stores as pre-teens and I assumed he meant the mall closest to where he grew up, but he told me they would often travel to different malls in the area just for something new. We could have met each other then, me in line behind him. We talked about our high school football teams, him being a star player, and my hopes of our Senior Year winning a State Championship. We played a new team that year, his team. I had watched him play then, not knowing what our future would hold. We wouldn't meet formally until I was 19 and he was 20. I was attending a school 3000 miles away and had simply come home for a few weeks that summer to visit family and picked up a shift at the golf course I was working at part time. Him and his friends drove over an hour because the golf course they were going to play at was closed randomly without warning, on a Saturday in July. When he walked in, something felt different, and I could see it on his face too. (Apparently he told his mom that night we met that he was going to marry me.) Now we joke with each other that we will find each other in every lifetime.

But to me, I am not joking.

I love the invisible string theory! The fact that you can be so connected to someone and not even know until they come into your life. Things like this make me believe in the saying that "Everything Happens For A Reason.".

What a gorgeous piece and an even better idea of capturing a mundane moment in our lives hoping that when we meet someone who we care for one day, we can share how we thought about then this particular day. I have always had similar thoughts but thought it a waste to ponder about. But i think, I’ll start noticing the people I see in places i enjoy going to. Thank you.

I thought I was alone in the belief that maybe events and encounters aren't as random as we like to think. I think I have been afraid to strike up conversations with these 'random people'. Thanks for sharing this; it resonates with me so much.

Oh, I just love this !!! , I've always thought about it , what if ? Your words struck something deep within my soul I've always carried with me . Your words also reminded me of something said by the Prophet Muhammad ( peace be upon him ) (Hadith)

The Prophet ﷺ said:

"Souls are like Conscripted soldiers; those among them that are familiar with one another will associate, and those among them that are different will diverge"

— Narrated by Al-Bukhari and Muslim.

This means that people’s souls have a natural connection or disconnection that exists even before they meet in this world.

There are some sayings in the explanation of this Hadith ,they say when souls where created they where all created at once and grouped ( in like every single soul in this world since the beginning of life till it's end has already been created, just waiting for it's body to be born ) and these souls where grouped so if you felt u know someone instantly as if you've met them before it means your souls already met before in the start of creation, they where grouped together .

This also goes when u meet somebody and feel distant or uneasy for no clear reason it means your soul didn't actually meet or interwine before .

I think this explains why that human relationships often go deeper than appearances or logic — sometimes, it’s simply the souls recognizing each other.

I've always thought about this but didn't actually but the effort to research the idea , i think i should do that sometime . 😅 thank u for your words it was really a delightful read.
